  1. John Clifton “Jack” Bogle was born on May 8, 1929, in Montclair, New Jersey, and passed away on January 16, 2019, at the age of 89.
  2. He was the founder of The Vanguard Group, one of the world’s largest investment companies.
  3. Bogle is credited with creating the first index fund, which revolutionized the investment industry by offering low-cost, passive investing options to individuals.
  4. He graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University in 1951 and was also a Phi Beta Kappa member.
  5. Bogle initially worked for the investment firm Wellington Management Company, where he rose to become the company’s CEO.
  6. In 1975, he founded The Vanguard Group, which began with just one mutual fund, the First Index Investment Trust, now known as the Vanguard 500 Index Fund.
